Howdy Chitlins! Need a Thanksgiving dessert recipe? Let me help y’all out. Eight great desserts from the traditional pie, to an elegant trifle, to cakes with WOW.
Let’s start with the classics, Pumpkin Pie. Throw a little bourbon in there for good measure and to make everyone a little more pleasant. Don’t worry, I won’t tell.
My personal favorite is a chocolate mousse pie. This is the way old school version with egg yolks and is absolutely dreamy.
Maybe trifles are more your thing. Whisk a few ingredients together and slap ’em in a bowl. You don’t even have to worry about presentation. I’ve got two for you. My mother’s classic fruit trifle (which can be adapted to make it Weight Watchers friendly, just use low fat ingredients and angel food cake).
Or perhaps you prefer something a little boozier. How ’bout a bushwhacker trifle? If you don’t have time to make a sponge cake you can buy angel food cake from the store, or pound cake if you’re feeling indulgent. Make it in a big bowl to serve to a crowd if you don’t want to make a bunch of individual servings.
Or maybe you’re a cake type of family? How about a stunning limoncello cake?
Or my dad’s favorite carrot cake?
Maybe you want your cake to have a bit more of the wow factor? Try a mille-feuille crepe cake. It’s not as difficult to make as it sounds, and doesn’t even require your oven! Plus it has butterscotch and who doesn’t love that?
Or maybe you want a classic fall recipe? Double apple cake will do the trick and help use up those apples you picked two weeks ago.
And that’s all she wrote folks. Enjoy your turkey day! Gobble, gobble!
