Chitlins, let me tell you a story. It goes like this: When I was younger my uncle got remarried, and I wasn’t totally stoked on the idea. I don’t know why, there was no reason to be upset about it. I just decided I was going to hold a grudge, because I was a snotty teenager.
I begrudgingly met his new wife at some family function and of course she’s as sweet as pie. Then she whips out two beautiful pies. A chocolate mousse and a lemon meringue. I overheard through other people talking that she actually made from scratch these two pies that were picture perfect. I was skeptical.
Actually, there’s nothing really inside out about this. I mean instead of chocolate on the outside in a glaze, I made it the cake. And instead of a white/vanilla cake I made a white chocolate vanilla glaze. So I guess it’s a backwards cake? I’m not really sure. I was really excited about it when I thought of it, though.
Hai guys! I made something epically delicious for you today. Pastry cream with bourbon. You’re welcome.
Basically, I love pastry cream. True story. I eat with a spoon. Also a true story. I mean, let’s be real, it’s basically just a thicker pudding. Why can’t I eat it with a spoon? Exactly.
Oh hai guys! I made more chocolate things. It seems to be all I’ve got on the brain lately. Which is totally weird for me, because I would not call myself a chocoholic by any means. If you name something “death by chocolate” you’ve pretty much guaranteed that I’m not going to try it.
But for whatever reason I’m pulling the ultra-girl card the last month or so and all I can think about is chocolate. And then all I want to do is listen to Jason Mraz and Michael Bublé, curl up in comfy clothes and watch endless episodes of House Hunters International with The BF. Ugh. I’m my own worst nightmare.
I love layer cakes. Sorta.
I love the way they look when they’re all prettily decorated. And I love the slices sitting on a plate just waiting to be devoured.
And I really enjoy the process of baking them – and ohemgee you guys, cake batter? I mean, is there really anything better? (Maybe cookie dough. Okay, probably cookie dough. Or I guess it’s really a tie.)
Yeah, I know. This is the third recipe with bacon in it in the last week. Also it’s the second consecutive picture using the same dishtowel in the background. I’m sorry. I’m a terrible blogger and neglecting my duties. But c’mon! It’s bacon in a cupcake, it’s amazeballs and my most requested cupcake from my friends. Are you really going to hold it against me?
Heck yeah alliteration! Don’t you love it? I do. But I’m a dork. True story. My best friend growing up nicknamed me Krod, it’s dork backwards. Yeah, that really singles you out as a dork, huh? Whatever. I like it.
Anyway, anyone else having epic heat waves this week? Holy cow, can’t even handle it. I have a terrible time regulating my body temperature. If it’s cold outside I’m 20 degrees colder, if it’s warm outside I’m 20 degrees warmer, if it’s hot outside, I die. Another true story. I’m actually a ghost writing this post right now.
I dunno about you, Chitlins, but I lurve me some bourbon. However, being a girl, I have a hard time drinking it straight (or on the rocks, or neat or whatever the proper terminology is), so I like to mix it with things. My favorite mixer of all time is ginger ale. But that can get old pretty quickly. And then I stumbled upon a marvelous discovery that only took me a year to recreate.
