So it’s exactly 6 days til Christmas and you still don’t have gifts yet? That’s totally okay guys! I have a gift right here that literally takes minutes. No joke, I wouldn’t lie to you.

Chocolate Chip French Yogurt Loaf
Hi Chitlins! I’ve been gone all week, it was my birthday and we’ve been apartment hunting, and I know this isn’t an excuse but whatever I’m using it. I was hoping to have something super spectacular for you guys because this is my 100th post, and it being so close to my birthday I envisioned something beautiful and covered in sprinkles, but sadly it didn’t happen. Instead, I spent nearly 12 hours canvasing our neighborhood looking at 10 different apartments, and then threw myself an ice cream social birthday party, where I forgot my camera and took only two sad pictures on my iPhone. Blogging fail.
TWD: Hazelnut Biscotti
Chitlins, do you have any idea how hard it is to photograph biscotti to make them look as delicious as they taste? I’ll tell you it’s harder than I was willing to put the effort into last week, and I’m sorry for that. There were a number of melancholy events that didn’t exactly put me in the mood for really puttering over how to photograph some silly cookies (when you looked at the grand scheme of life).
Candied Lemon Peel
Oh man, Chitlins. Is Mother Nature PMS-ing in your neck of the woods? She is super grumpy around New York, that’s fo’ shizzle. First it’s sunny and warm, and then she gets all P.O’ed and it’s freezing and cloudy. It hasn’t rained (yet, at least not since Sunday’s awesome storms) but it’s constantly threatening to. Girl needs to take a Midol, grab a blanket, a pint of Ben & Jerry’s and watch a RomCom, stat.
Glimmer Cupcakes
A few weeks ago my friend Coach approached me about possibly making cupcakes based on new wall-covering designs her company was selling. I wholeheartedly agreed, because this sounded like loads of fun. And it is! I delivered her first batch a few weeks ago, and luckily had made extras with all the leftover batter that I was able to deliver a second batch two days later, due to such high demand. Can you believe it? I made something in “high demand.” Best news ever.
Mini Bushwhacker Cakes
Big win for the G-Men last night, huh folks? Very exciting game. Though to be honest I was exhausted after having spent almost five hours yesterday afternoon frantically making two tons of food, of which only a half a ton was eaten. {grumpy face} And now we’re moving on Valentine’s Day treats. Does anyone else remember when the Super Bowl wasn’t right on top of Valentine’s Day and you had some time to breathe between the two events? Yeah, me neither. Continue reading
Guest Post: Cake Pops
Hey Chitlins: Since I was on vacation all last week I didn’t get to make anything so I asked my friend Sarah to do a post on these awesome cake pops she made a few weeks ago. Enjoy, I know you’ll love her (if not for the sole fact that she has incredibly enviable hair)!
Hi blog people! I am one of Ace’s friends, Sarah, and I am honored to have been asked by Ace to be the first ever guest blogger here! Ace was in Mexico for the past week (jealous!), but someone had to continue to slave away in the kitchen while she ziplined through the jungles and leisured on a beach. She left me here to pretend that the heat of my oven was actually the glorious Mexican sun beating down on my face. Like Ace, I also love to cook and bake (though she is significantly more patient than I am) and lately people have been complimenting me like crazy and even asking me to bake for their special events. Obviously getting complimented is awesome so feel free to keep ‘em coming. And now a little about me…
English Pecan Toffee
Oh dear Chitlins, even in the New Year I’m sucking at this holiday post thing! I’m so sorry, I was just so thrilled to have the day off yesterday (what a surprise!) that I spent all day doing nothing (well, except running 6 miles for that pesky half-marathon in March). Otherwise, The BF and I had a lovely and relaxing New Years weekend in Vermont, despite the whole no snow issue.
Sea Salt and Caramel Shortbread
Oh my, I’m really bad at the posting during the holidays thing. And it’s only going to get worse, since The BF and I leave for Cancun in a week for his “Turning Old” celebration. Anyhoo, this is a really quick post and I’m not entirely certain it was a win but I think many of the mitigating factors about that are not due to my baking skills.
Apple Butter
Let’s talk apple butter. Not a lot of people have heard of it and even fewer know what it is. I will readily admit I have never actually tried or eaten apple butter. I know; it’s scandalous. Growing up my dad used to keep jars of it in our fridge. It was the weird brown condiment at the back of the fridge that no one but Dad ate. Seriously. I don’t think a single living soul in our family ate that “butter” except for him.
Fun fact about fruit butters, there’s a whole heck of a lot of them: apple, plum, pumpkin, etc. I mean at Masker Orchards alone I saw at least six varieties. It’s pretty astonishing. And to be honest, they all look pretty much the same. Like a sort of brownish mush.
